Nick Folk Should Be Jets Kicker for Foreseeable Future
The Jets should sign Nick Folk beyond 2025, and for at least another three seasons (with only two guaranteed). This may sound crazy, because he will be 41 in November, but hear me out.
The Jets need stability. They can have him be a what I’d refer to as a “long-term placeholder”. He’d give them the temporary stability they need at the position while building a winner.
He may be on the team only at the beginning of the turnaround, but he can give the team some hope while they are trying to turn things around.
According to Stathead, seven out of 11 kickers who kicked in their age 41 season also kicked in their age 43 season (with one of them taking a season off during their age 42 season). Six out of those seven kicked at age 44.
So, more than 50% of kickers who kicked at age 41 made it through their age 44 season.
With Austin McNamara looking like a solid punter as a rookie, that could mean the Jets have the punter and kicker locked up for a solid three more seasons, especially if Folk doesn’t have a significant drop off.
I’d offer Folk a 3-year, $16,402,800 contract with $8,092,550 guaranteed.
This would put Folk at the top of the kicker market in both AAV and 2-year cash value. It would also help the Jets with a long-time issue…kicker.
Official Roster Projection
This would leave the Jets with $56,919,705 in cap space for Week 1 with 21 roster spots to fill.
